RANDI MURRAY
|
Randi Murray began her dance studies at the age of 8 under Elva Eilers, who by 1959 had taken all the necessary classes and tests to earn the highest degree held by anyone in the United States at that time from Royal Academy Dancing in London. Mrs. Eilers was also an active member of Dance Masters of America for many years. Randi performed all over the Northern California region, including several West Valley Light Opera productions, Santa Clara County Fair and State Competitions. She later taught for Eilers until she relocated to the Mother Lode area in 1974. Randi continued her dance studies in San Jose with the Benny Smith Academy of Dance, Dance Arts Unlimited, as well as with Terry Hoff at Columbia College, while opening up her own studio in the basement of her Crystal Falls home in 1977. The studio held its first recital in June 1978 with a mere 12 dancers and Randi Murray's Dance Studio was born.
More than 30 years and hundreds of students later, Randi continues to maintain a fun-filled atmosphere at the studio, always seeking new challenges for her students and herself. A Dance Masters of America member she tested and became certified in Ballet in 2002. Randi believes that Ballet is the foundation for all dancing and encourages her dancers to study ballet and apply it to all styles of dance. She supports participation in Regional and National competitions, where her students have won both acclaim and valued experience in the world of dance under her guidance. The studio hosts their own in-house competition to keep the kids on their toes, and culminates everyone's hard work in an annual recital that the whole town attends at the end of the school year.
“Randi Murray's Dance Studio has been an integral part of the arts community in Tuolumne County for over 30 years. Nearly every family here has put a child through Randi's studio doors, as she has remained a constant staple in all our lives. It's a simple equation:
Dance + Sonora = Randi Murray's!” - Mark Marchillo
